The Debian source archive is not pristine. We needed a way to hold binaries
for the library for multiple architectures since XForms is distributed in
binary-only format (no source code). The archive consists of:

  ftp://ncmir.ucsd.edu/pub/xforms/linux-i386/elf/bxform-089-glibc2.1.tgz
  1182 Kb    Sun Jun 11 08:52:00 2000

This original archive was unpacked and the top level directory was renamed
to libforms0.89-0.89.  A directory libforms0.89-0.89/FORMS/i386/ was then
created with symlinks to the i386 libraries:

   libforms0.89-0.89/FORMS/i386/libforms.a  -> ../libforms.a
   libforms0.89-0.89/FORMS/i386/libforms.so.0.89 -> ../libforms.so.0.89
   libforms0.89-0.89/FORMS/i386/forms.h -> ../forms.h

The powerpc, m68k and alpha version of the libraries (from their own
version of bxform-089-glibc21.tgz) were placed in another directory, e.g.:

   libforms0.89-0.89/FORMS/powerpc/

The same operation was done for the fd2ps and fdesign binaries.

The `debian' directory was added and this makes up the libformsX_X-Y.tar.gz
file. As binaries for other Debian-supported architectures become
available, new tar files will be build to include them.

This method allows us to create a _new_ libforms0.89_0.89-X.tar.gz file
every time a new architecture is added upstream (and ask the porters to
build it).

powerpc architecture binaries are from:

 ftp://ncmir.ucsd.edu/pub/xforms/linux-ppc/bxform-089-glibc21.tgz
 1355 Kb    Sat Oct  2 00:00:00 1999

-

alpha architecture was added to libforms0.89_0.89-5.tar.gz, and updated
in libforms0.89_0.89-7.tar.gz using binaries built from (V0.89.1) sources
provided by Upstream (sxform-Mar2500.tgz). The Alpha binaries were given
back upstream and are distributed there as:

 ftp://ncmir.ucsd.edu/pub/xforms/linux-alpha/bxform-089-glibc2.1.tgz
 1773 Kb    Sat May 20 15:40:00 2000

I rechecked the upstream archive for Debian version 0.89-11 and notice the
size of the tar ball was different. So I'm using the one available
upstream now in 0.89-11.

m68k architecture was added to libforms0.89_0.89-6.tar.gz from (V0.89.1)
sources provided by Upstream (sxform-Mar2500.tgz). The m68k binaries were
given back upstream and are distributed there as

 ftp://ncmir.ucsd.edu/pub/xforms/linux-m68k/bxform-089.glibc2.1.tgz
 1066 Kb    Sun May 28 16:29:00 2000

-

sparc architecture was added to libforms0.89_0.89-8.tar.gz from (V0.89.1)
sources provided by Upstream (sxform-Mar2500.tgz). The sparc binaries were
given back upstream and will presumably be distributed there as

 ftp://ncmir.ucsd.edu/pub/xforms/linux-sparc/bxform-089.glibc2.1.tgz
 1401151 bytes  md5sum: 4a90767a104b9cd430524fd0b622ad83

-

ia64 architecture was added to libforms0.89_0.89-11.tar.gz from a package
made by Doug Porter <dsp@debian.org> and given back upstream. It will
presumably be distributed there as

 ftp://ncmir.ucsd.edu/pub/xforms/linux-ia64/bxform-089.glibc2.1.tgz
 2053892 bytes  md5sum: 1c9b9040ab24df6ea4219542eed3d07f

-

s390 architecture was added to libforms0.89_0.89-12.tar.gz from binaries
made by Debian developer Gerhard Tonn <GerhardTonn@swol.de> (See
Bug#120722: please add support for s390 architecture).
