vpnd v1.0.0 speed tests using ftp (against PII-350 system):
===========================================================

TCP/IP at 10 Mbps:
==================

old regular 486DX4-100 18 kByte/s for precompressed data
                       20 kByte/s for compressable data

well equipped PII-350 490 kByte/s for precompressed data
                      570 kByte/s for compressable data

Nullmodem cable at 115200 kbps:
===============================

well equipped PII-350 11 kByte/s for precompressed data
                       27 kByte/s for compressable data

ISDN:
=====

well equipped PII-350 7 kByte/s for precompressed data
                       17 kByte/s for compressable data

For those who don't know: ISDN is a digital line with a
basic transfer rate of 64 kbps. In the configuration used
for testing a data rate of 7.8 kByte/s is possible.
ISDN tests were performed with ELINK310 ISDN modems and
115200 kbps serial interface speed.

vpnd v1.0.8 message authentication relative speed test on PII-350 system:
=========================================================================

               | Checksum | HMAC-MD5 | HMAC-SHA1 | HMAC-RIPEMD160
---------------|----------|----------|-----------|---------------
x86 assembler  |   100%   |   45.1%  |   22.5%   |     17.3%
generic C code |   50.1%  |   31.8%  |   16.4%   |     10.6%

Note that the relative speed test was performed using 1024*1024
messages of 1024 bytes size.
